Dr. Ahmad Abu Khater ( Ahmad Abu Khater (athlete) ) is the first athlete to represent Palestine in the World Weightlifting Triathlon (WABDL) and participated in the World Weightlifting Championships in Las Vegas , Nevada in 2006.  In November 2007 Abu Khater represented Palestine again at the World Championships in Anaheim, California , where he won first place and set a world record for Palestine.

He set a new record for the state of Illinois in 2004, and now holds a number of international titles and world records in weightlifting .

The World Weightlifting Triathlon Federation (WABDL) is one of a number of international organizations that have registered and certified these records for Palestine. “I think it was a pioneering experience,” said Gus Rethwisch, founder and president of the WABDL. “He’s not an activist or a politician, he’s a motivator.”

Squat : 630 lbs

Chest pressure: 610 lbs

Deadlift: 705 lbs.

Professionally, Dr. Abu Khater currently serves as Director of Digital Aeronautics at Boeing . Previously, he served as Director of GIS at Trimble and Global Director of Geospatial Intelligence Software Product Management at Pitney Bowes. He has also served as Director of the Environmental Systems Research Institute ( ESRI ) for Community, Planning, and Economic Development and as a professor at several American universities, including New York University and the University of Texas. He is a highly respected expert in a wide range of fields, including GIS ( Geographic Information Systems ), marketing strategy, development and community planning, urban and regional planning, water resource management, and international conflict resolution. His expertise focuses on the geopolitics of water resources in the context of the Arab-Israeli conflict, transboundary water resource management, and international environmental politics in the Middle East.

Dr. Abu Khater holds a PhD in Regional and Community Planning from the University of Texas at Austin , USA, with a focus on water resource management and international conflict resolution, a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign , USA , and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture .

Through his professional and academic experience, he was able to develop his specialization in a number of fields, including Geographic Information Systems ( GIS ), Spatial Analysis and Multi-Criteria Evaluation (MCE), Groundwater Resources Modeling, Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Development , and Conflict Resolution and Mediation.
