Palestinian Roa Rumman managed to win the membership of the Georgia state parliament as a candidate for the Democratic Party in the midterm elections that took place yesterday.
The 29-year-old has campaigned on the need for government to work for all, and has pledged action to fully fund education, close the economic opportunity gap, expand access to health care and protect voting rights.
Roaa was born in 1994 in Jordan to Palestinian parents.
Her family moved to the United States, specifically to the state of Georgia, when she was seven years old.
Roaa received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from Oglethorpe University in 2015, and a Master of Public Policy degree from Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy in 2019.
Rou'a fought the political field, and describes herself as passionate about politics, civic engagement, interfaith dialogue, and community service.
Roaa has volunteered at every election cycle since 2014. She has also served as a field organizer for the Muslim Voters in Georgia project, in addition to her work as communications director for CARE Georgia.
In 2020 Insights helped many Georgians teach them how to participate and do the voting process. She has served as a field organizer for the Asian American Advocacy Fund.
Roaa is currently working as a Senior Consultant for a professional services management firm assisting government agencies and other stakeholders by advising, implementing and developing improved strategies to address key public policy issues at the local, state and federal levels.
