Information
Engineer Arwa Qallawa, a graduate of
the Department of Architectural Engineering at Birzeit University, won the
first prize from the American Institute of Architects. The AIA's Benn-Johnck
Award in Architecture, in addition to being ranked first for the Tectora Awards
in Architecture.
Where her project won the first prize at the level of all qualified
projects in the state of Illinois, and architect Arwa Qalalwa also won the
AIA’s Henry Adams Medal for her excellence in architectural design in Chicago.
The project, which was titled:
"The Incarceration of a City: Floating Structures of the
“In-between", aims to create a series of sectoral conditions for a new
form of infrastructure that responds to real-life scenarios in the Gaza Strip.
City life and the tectonics of siege and destruction in the strip.
It is noteworthy that Arwa Qallawa
obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering with distinction from
Birzeit University in 2018, and completed her Master’s degree in Architecture
in 2022, accredited by (NAAB) with a high distinction in the United States of
America from the University of Chicago. It has won many prestigious
architectural awards.
Currently, she works as a part-time
professor in the Department of Architectural Engineering at Birzeit University.
