The New York
State Police Department held a special ceremony in which the American of
Palestinian origin, "Palestine Sorour" was appointed to the command
of the Bronx County, one of the five counties that make up New York City, with
the rank of captain, to be the first woman of Arab descent to reach this rank.
The promotion
of Sorour, who holds a Bachelor's degree in criminology and a master's degree
in forensic psychology, and hails from the village of Beitunia in the Ramallah
and Al-Bireh Governorate, came after her distinction in working with the New
York Police Service, which is considered the largest in terms of police numbers
in the United States of America.
It is worth
noting that a number of Palestinian activists have assumed leadership positions
in the past period, including Rashida Tlaib, who reached the US Congress, and
Maher Al-Bitar, who was appointed Director of the Intelligence Service in the
US National Security Council.
