Information

A tape of memories brought back by the young man, Montaser Tarazi, about the image of Palestine in the past, with its conditions, its rapid events, and the details of living there, leading up to its occupation. He posts many pictures on his Facebook page that go back a lot in time, especially of Gaza, which was more beautiful than it is now.
Many memories from Gaza may still be preserved by generations to this day, especially with regard to the scene of Palestine before the Palestinian division. The first thing Tarazi shared with his followers on his personal page in the new year was several pictures of Palestinian leaders before the state of division in 2007, and they embodied his wish to restore national unity at the beginning of 2019.
The project that Tarazi started in 2013 is still ongoing, as he collects pictures of everything related to Palestine in the past, and shares them through his personal account, which he changed his name to “Muntaser Tarazi Archive,” garnering widespread interaction with everything he publishes, especially from those who are nostalgic for the past. And the simple life.
The young Palestinian man, who spends time digging up old photos related to Palestine to re-share them with his followers, decorates his page with many diverse memories, most of which revolve around Gaza, which has gone through many political, social, and even economic stages, passing through a strict Israeli siege imposed on it in 2007 without disappearing.
A look at the “Montaser Tarazi Archive” on Facebook reveals old photos starting from the 1940s until recent years. A picture of migrants from the village of Al-Faluja towards Gaza in 1949, and another shows a refugee camp in the Strip in 1963.
Another historical glimpse from the photo showed former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in Gaza in 1987, and in contrast, a photo of the head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in the 1990s during the deportation to Marj al-Zuhour in southern Lebanon, and another photo from 1993 of children playing football on the beach of Gaza City.
Extensive memories adorn the Palestinian Archive, including the moment the Palestinian Authority entered Gaza amidst the welcome of the masses in 1994, and another documentation of the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat the moment he visited Fatah movement sites in Jordan in 1968.
Tarazi, who considered this matter a hobby, told Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed that he began collecting archives since the beginning of 2013, as he loves researching the past. Tarazi obtains the archive from multiple sites, or through Palestinian libraries and their photos, or through friends who have historical photos and recorded videotapes from ancient times, and even searches on the Internet, in order to publish and share them with followers who liked the idea, according to what he said.
Tarazi says that the most prominent thing he shared on his page was a video clip of a speech by the Palestinian doctor and politician Haider Abdel Shafi at the Doctors Syndicate in 1980, which was attended by leaders from the Hamas movement, most notably the martyr Abdel Aziz Al-Rantisi, and another video of the streets of Gaza in the years 1975, 1970, and 1988.
As part of his ongoing research, Tarazi obtained Israeli television programs for the years 1988, 1994, and 1982, such as the magazine program, Sports in a Week, and Abu Jarir, and an archive of programs from Palestine TV, such as the Fishermen series and the opening of Gaza International Airport, and programs from Jordanian television, such as the Information Bank.
Tarazi does not stop publishing all the pictures and video clips he obtains, enhancing his archive of pictures of Palestine, at a time when he confirms that the social situation in the occupied territories before the Palestinian uprising was mostly calm compared to the rapid and heated events taking place on the scene at the present time.
