Samir Othman Mahmoud Hulileh, born on May 11, 1957, in Jericho, is a Palestinian economist, businessman, and politician, celebrated for his multifaceted contributions to Palestinian society. His journey from Jericho to prominent leadership roles reflects a commitment to service and excellence in various spheres.
Raised in Jericho until the early 1970s, Hulileh's family relocated to Ramallah after the passing of his mother. He received his education at Friends Schools, shaping his early years with values of education and community engagement. His pursuit of higher education took him to Egypt, intending to study medicine at Ain Shams University. However, his activism against the Camp David Accords in 1978 led to his deportation alongside 700 Palestinian students, redirecting his path.
Undeterred, Hulileh redirected his studies to Birzeit University, earning a bachelor's degree in sociology in 1981. Furthering his academic journey, he obtained a master's degree in economics from the American University of Beirut in 1983, showcasing his resilience and commitment to learning.
Entering the professional realm in 1984, Hulileh commenced his career as a teacher at Birzeit University, later assuming the role of dean of student affairs. He actively engaged in Palestinian negotiating delegations, contributing to discussions on economic matters and gaining insight into the Paris Economic Protocol.
With the establishment of the Palestinian National Authority in 1994, Hulileh transitioned into governmental roles, serving as Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Trade until 1997. His expertise and dedication propelled him to the position of Secretary-General of Ahmed Qurei's third government in 2005, where he spearheaded initiatives from the Prime Minister's Office.
Simultaneously, Hulileh made significant strides in the business sector, serving as CEO of Palestine Development and Investment Company Limited and assuming leadership roles in various companies, including Jericho Gateway for Real Estate Investment.
Recognized for his expertise and leadership, Hulileh was appointed a member of the Board of Trustees of Al-Quds Open University in 2022. Later that year, he was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Palestine Stock Exchange, marking another milestone in his illustrious career.
