In the courtyard of her house, with the help of her parents, Yara, a young woman in her twenties, from the Gaza Strip, prepares an inspiring environment for a romantic date with drawing. The story of this talent began 14 years ago when Yara’s parents discovered the strong love relationship between their daughter and the world of brushes and colors.
Yara Dawaba, a painter from Gaza, says, “I have been drawing since my childhood. I started drawing cartoon characters, and my mother was the first to discover my talent.”
Yara succeeded in investing her academic qualification in communications engineering to open new horizons of creativity for herself, as she moved between traditional drawing on paper and paintings, through drawing programs on the computer, all the way to ice cream sticks.
Yara Dawaba continues, “Drawing on ice cream sticks was an idea that came to me after I did not have the price of traditional paintings, and the idea was admired by many people around me.”
Yara had thousands of followers on social media after she started publishing her drawings on the Internet. She was surprised by some of them’ requests to draw their personal pictures, which prompted her to invest her talent in making some money.
Yara says, “From here I started developing myself and gained more followers on social media.”
Yara aspires to take her talent to the international level and specialize in the field of cartooning, to prove that the besieged life in Gaza is not difficult to create.
