Maan Rashid Khalil Erekat (October 12, 1960 in Jericho - ) is a diplomat and politician from the State of Palestine.
Education and educational attainment
Erekat was born on October 12, 1960 in Jericho. He studied finance at Arizona State University and obtained a bachelor's degree from it in 1983, and in 1987 he obtained a master's degree in business administration from Western International University within the Apollo Education Group. He received a course in good governance at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 2001.
Political life
Erekat served as a spokesperson for the Orient House in the period 1993-1998, which is the headquarters of the Palestine Liberation Organization in the eastern part of Jerusalem. Then in 1998 he moved to work in the Palestinian National Authority within the Department of Negotiations Affairs and continued until March 2008. In 2008-2009 he worked as General Coordinator of the Department of Negotiations Affairs.
On April 18, 2009, the Palestinian President appointed him as head of the PLO delegation in the United States, and he continued until March 2017. He was appointed ambassador of the State of Palestine to Britain, but Britain refused to grant him a diplomatic visa in his capacity as the ambassador of the State of Palestine.
On August 26, 2020, Erekat was retired.
