Information
Dr. Firas Melhem holds a PhD in Law from a Belgian University in 2004, a Master’s degree from Birzeit University in 2000, and a Bachelor’s degree from a Moroccan University in 1993. He is a member of the Palestinian Bar Association.
He has gained extensive experience in his field of specialization; he worked as Head of the Rule of Law Team (Justice and Security), and was responsible for the economic relations file in the Quartet Office for more than seven years. He was Head of the Grievances Office at the Palestine Monetary Authority for four years and a member of its Board of Directors for five years. He was an expert in judicial training in the Attorney General’s Office through the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) for one year. He worked for three years as Deputy Head of the Legal Team and a key expert within the EU-funded Sovereignty II Project to Strengthen the Palestinian Judiciary.
Dr. Melhem has also worked for many years, extending over nearly eighteen years, as a researcher and consultant on several projects in legal and economic aspects. Dr. Melhem worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law at Birzeit University from 2004 to 2009, and between 2007 and 2009 he was an advisor to the Palestinian Minister of Interior. He also contributed to many studies, including with the MAS Institute.
