Sheikh Hashem Abdel Rahman Mahajna, the fourth president of the municipality of Umm al-Fahm. He was born on September 20, 1958 in Umm al-Fahm. Married and has seven children. He received his primary and secondary education in Umm al-Fahm schools, and continued his educational career until he obtained his first degree “B.A” from Hebron University, then he obtained his second degree “MA” from An-Najah National University in Nablus.
Sheikh Abdul Rahman worked and held several positions, and the teaching profession was at the beginning of his journey, where he worked for two years in 1981 and 1982 as a teacher at Umm al-Fahm secondary school, except that he was dismissed by the Ministry of Education under unknown reasons and was informed that he was a persona non grata. After that, he moved to work in the field of self-employment from 1982 to 1988, and he was one of those in charge of issuing the monthly magazine “Al-Sirat”, and then the weekly newspaper “The Voice of Truth and Freedom”.
Following the victory of the Islamic Movement in the elections for the municipality of Umm al-Fahm in 1989, he assumed the position of acting mayor from 1989 and 1998, and the mayor was then Sheikh Raed Salah. From 1999 to 2003, he managed the Hajj and Umrah Association and the Al-Islah Association, which dealt with the problems that arose between people in the city in particular and in the Arab community in general. He also worked as a lecturer at the “College of Da’wah and Islamic Sciences” for two years, and held the position of Director of the Center for Contemporary Studies.
On October 28, 2003, he was elected mayor of Umm al-Fahm and considered himself following the path of his predecessors in this position, Sheikh Raed Salah and Dr. Suleiman Ahmed Igbaria, and also served as the head of the Orphan Relief Committee. And after he finished his work as head of the municipality of Umm al-Fahm in 2008, he continued to do charitable and reform work among people.
