Information
Suleiman Al-Nabulsi (1908-1976),
Prime Minister of Jordan from October 29, 1956 to April 10, 1957.
He formed the ministry after the National
Socialist Party, which he headed, won fourteen seats in parliament in the
elections for the third parliament in 1956, with a party alliance that also
included the Socialist Baath Party and the National Front. He was one of the
opponents of the Baghdad Pact and his government is considered the first
parliamentary government in Jordan. He was dismissed by King Hussein bin Talal
after disagreements over foreign policy, and Jordan witnessed massive
demonstrations because of this. Suleiman Al-Nabulsi entered the political field
for the first time in that period, by heading the Al-Urwa Al-Wuthqa
Association. Then he returned to the Emirate of Transjordan in 1932, to work as
a teacher in Karak and Salt for one year, after which he held several
non-ministerial positions in the government until 1942.
Nabulsi family
The roots of the Nabulsi family,
which are currently distributed between Nablus in Palestine, Al-Salt, and Amman
in Jordan, go back to the Bedashah Arabs, who were spread in previous eras in
the Bisan region in Palestine. The Al-Nabulsi family and the other the
Al-Bashtawi family, and the narration adds that some of the men of the
Al-Nabulsi family moved to Gaza to be the nucleus of another branch of the
Al-Nabulsi family known in Gaza as the Al-Ashqar Al-Nabulsi family. For a long
time, the Al-Nabulsi family enjoyed a high position in the city, with wealth,
trade, and ownership of lands, real estate, and orchards. They were among the
first families to admit their children to schools, and they used to go to
Nablus to complete their studies in schools that are more advanced than those
in the city of Salt in the early twentieth century, until the evacuation of the
Turks and the formation of the emirate and the completion of the Salt School to
form a secondary school so that they were the first to enter secondary school.
The Nabulsi family in Al-Salt had a prominent social position, and many of the
family members held important positions in the Emirate of Transjordan and the
Kingdom. They were also members of the Legislative Council, the House of
Representatives, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and the Council of
Ministers.
His upbringing and education
He was born in the city of Al-Salt
in Jordan, and received his first education in its writers, and obtained a
general secondary school certificate, then completed his studies at Al-Quds
College, and completed his university education at the American University of
Beirut, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in economics and political
science in 1932.
an idea
Suleiman Al-Nabulsi was imbued with
liberal and nationalist ideas during his studies at the American University of
Beirut in 1932, and after graduation he worked as a teacher in the city of Salt
and other cities in Jordan. Jordan joined it and contributed to its formation,
and the new organized national forces on the Jordanian scene were respected,
especially after the unity of the two banks in 1950, when most of the political
parties were formed: Islamists in 46, Baathists in 52, nationalists and
socialists in 54, and leftists in 51, who respected his struggle against The
Baghdad Pact, its belief in the Nasserite nationalist political experience, and
its rebellious ideas against the British mandate and the British treaty.
