The municipality of Paterson, New Jersey, appointed Palestinian Zoriya Ammar to the city council.

With this appointment, Ammar became the first Palestinian woman on the city planning council.

In 2020, the Patterson municipality raised the Palestinian flag over its building, in honor of the Palestinian community in the city and its role in extending a helping hand to its residents.
