Muhammad Tahir al-Husayni (1842 in Jerusalem - 1908) was a judge and mufti of the Ottoman Empire.

Personal biographies

Muhammad Tahir Mustafa Taher al-Husseini was born in Jerusalem in 1842. He served as a judge of the Sharia courts and was later appointed by Ottoman officials as Mufti of Jerusalem in the 1860s from 1865 until his death.

Muhammad Taher al-Husseini was on the committee of notables examining land sales to foreigners in the Jerusalem area ; This led to a halt in land sales to Jews for a few years, starting in 1897.

Muhammad Taher al-Husseini was one of the first critics of Zionism and tried several times to prevent Jewish immigrants from buying lands in the Jerusalem Mutasarrifate. 

Death

Muhammad Taher Al-Husseini died in 1908, and his sons Kamel Al-Husseini and Amin Al-Husseini took over after him.
