Information
Kholoud Fakih , a Palestinian lawyer and judge , was appointed in 2009 and Asmahan Al-Wahidi to the position of Sharia judge , and they are the first two women to hold this position in Palestine.
Her education and career
She studied law at Al-Quds University, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1999, and obtained a master’s degree from the same university in 2007 with a thesis in private international law. In 2001, she obtained a Sharia lawyer’s license from the Office of the Chief Justice, and a regular lawyer’s license from the Bar Association .
She worked as a lawyer in her private practice, and a legal advisor to the Women's Center for Legal and Social Guidance for more than eight years.
In February 2009, she was appointed as a Sharia judge by decree of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
Married and mother of four children.
Film
Al-Faqih was the main character in “The Judge,” a documentary by American director Erica Cohen, which dealt with Palestinian women’s issues.
