Wael Mohammed Mahmoud Zaqout (July 31, 1962 – ) is a Palestinian civil and environmental engineer who has been serving as Minister of Planning and International Cooperation in the government of Mohammed Mustafa since March 2024. [ He previously served as Director of the Global Practice Group on Land Policy and Spatial Disparities at the World Bank.
His life
Zaqout studied at Birzeit University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States .
He joined the World Bank in 1994, focusing his work on land policy and land ownership programs in more than 30 countries.
Between 2007 and 2011, he served as Director of the Urban, Water and Disaster Risk Management Sector for the Europe and Central Asia region.
He was the World Bank Country Director for Yemen until March 2015.
On March 28, 2024, President Mahmoud Abbas approved the ministerial formation of the nineteenth Palestinian government headed by Muhammad Mustafa and gave it confidence. On March 31, 2024, Zaqout took the legal oath as Minister of Planning and International Cooperation at the Palestinian presidential headquarters in the city of Al-Bireh .
