Information

He was born in Salt. He studied law and military science in Istanbul. He came to Nablus and became mayor (1925-1950). He was one of the founders of the Defense Party, which engaged in a long conflict with the Arab Party, with disastrous consequences for all. His opponents accused him of compromising with the British. The Palestinian Encyclopedia described him as a "traditional Palestinian-Jordanian politician and statesman." He was appointed to the Senate after the union with the Kingdom of Transjordan, and later became its deputy speaker. He served as Minister of Defense from 1951-1957 and Minister of the Royal Court from 1953-1955. He was appointed military governor for three months, from April to July 1957.

He was appointed Minister of the Royal Court again from 1957-1958. He was Minister of Defense in the government of the Arab Federation, which united Iraq and Jordan in a merger. He was killed in Baghdad, and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Union (Ibrahim Hashim) was killed in the midst of the Iraqi army’s takeover of power in Baghdad on 7/14/1958. Darwaza described him: “During the strike, he had strong positions that earned him popularity and sympathy. After the strike, he became arrogant because of this popularity he had gained, so he aspired to the leadership of Palestine and imposed himself. He took a position of criticism and threatened to split when the Arab Higher Committee insisted on not cooperating with the Royal Committee. Then he was one of the strongest factors in the withdrawal of the representatives of the Defense Party from the Arab Higher Committee.”
