Jibrin Elias Abed al-Bakri (Abu Saleh; born January 8, 1961 in Hebron) is a Palestinian politician and military member and a member of the Fatah movement. He has held the position of Governor of Hebron Governorate since 2018. Previously, he was Governor of Bethlehem Governorate, and before that he was Governor of Nablus Governorate.
Jibrin Elias Abed Al Bakri was born in Hebron on January 8, 1961 to a Palestinian Muslim family. He holds a BA in English, Education and Psychology from Hebron University.
Al-Bakri rose through the ranks when he was studying at Hebron University as Chairman of the Student Union Council in the period 1983-1984. After the establishment of the Palestinian National Authority in 1994, he was appointed Director of the Palestinian Preventive Security Directorate in the Hebron Governorate and remained in the position for approximately 6 years. In 2008 he retired from Preventive Security.
After the Sixth General Conference of Fatah was held in August 2009, he obtained membership in the Palestinian Revolutionary Council and became a member of it.
On December 3, 2009, the Palestinian President appointed him as Governor of Nablus Governorate. On May 31, 2014, he was transferred to the Bethlehem Governorate and appointed as its governor. On October 1, 2018, he was appointed Governor of the Hebron Governorate.
Israel arrested al-Bakri about 17 times, and he spent about 7 years in its prisons.
