Information
Arif Al-Azouni (1896-1961) was a Palestinian writer and journalist , born in the city of Jaffa . He received his primary education at the French School of Freres in Jaffa and completed his secondary education at the Aintoura School in Lebanon . He spoke several languages, including Arabic , Turkish , French , and Italian .
His life
Al-Azouni worked in the field of education at the Rashidiya School and the School of Islamic Sciences in 1912, then an editor in the newspapers that were published in Jaffa, including ( Filastin , Al-Jazeera, Al-Hurria , and Al- Diffa ), in addition to some Egyptian newspapers such as Al-Seyassah Weekly and Al-Ahram . In 1936, Al-Azzouni, in partnership with the storyteller Mahmoud Saif al-Din al-Irani, published Al-Fajr magazine, which is considered the most important literary magazine published in Palestine before the Nakba , as he wrote ninety stories in it, most notably the story “ Refugee ,” which was translated into English .
During World War II, the British Mandate authorities arrested him on charges of spreading propaganda against them. [1] After his forced displacement, he moved to live in the city of Nablus and worked in the Filastin newspaper , then as a teacher in the UN Relief Agency , and he worked as a correspondent for Al-Bayan newspaper in New York , London Radio , and the Voice of America. His son, Nabil Al-Azouni, published a book about his father entitled “Arif Al-Azouni, a pioneer of Palestinian literature.” Twenty-eight years after his death.

He died on November 6, 1961 in Nablus.
