Saeed Erekat (born 1947 or 1948) is a Palestinian journalist and the Washington bureau chief of the Jerusalem -based Al- Quds newspaper . Erekat also teaches as an adjunct professor at the American University . He served as spokesman for the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq from 2005 to 2010.
Erekat has long attended State Department press conferences , and has been known for his sometimes controversial exchanges with State Department spokespeople, including John Kirby , Heather Nauert , and Ned Price . Some have criticized Erekat for pushing a Palestinian point of view, with Charles Peilzer of the Jewish News Syndicate saying that Erekat "regularly attacks Israel...at State Department conferences," a view that Philip Weiss of Mondoweiss described as "a distortion by the Zionist press." Israel Madad of the Jerusalem Post finds Erekat asking flawed questions.
Twitter suspended Erekat's account for violations on December 3, 2022, but Erekat said he did not know what the violations were. Twitter lifted the suspension on December 29, 2022. Speaking to Al Jazeera , Erekat said he believed the restriction was related to his outspokenness about Palestine, saying he "can't think of any other reason."
Erekat has appeared on Al Jazeera, C-SPAN , NBC News , and PBS . Erekat has also written for the Dubai -based Gulf News .
