Palestinian
journalist Majdoleen Hassouna won the 2021 World Press Freedom Award - the
category of freelance journalist, which is awarded by the international
organization "Journalists Without Borders".
Hassouna, a
journalist from the West Bank, works for the Turkish TV channel TRT Arabi.
Majdouline
Hassouna stated on her official account that "this merit is very important
to me because it has re-shown light on the suffering of the Palestinian press
in terms of blatant practices and violations, and the suppression of press
freedom by the Israeli occupation."
Majdouline
added that this award is for Palestine and for every Palestinian journalist who
suffered from oppression, injustice and suppression of freedoms, especially the
detained, imprisoned and martyred journalists.
It is worth
noting that the Israeli authorities have prevented Majdoleen from traveling,
leaving the West Bank, and joining her work since 2019, and therefore the
journalist, Majdoleen, will not be able to attend the honoring ceremony.
Majdouline
thanked Reporters Without Borders for its continuous support and freedom of the
press for this brave achievement.
It is
noteworthy that the occupation authorities control all the crossings of the
West Bank, and often prevent Palestinians from leaving them.
