The young woman, Nermeen Al-Akhras, won the highest percentage of votes in the mock elections for the Young Journalists Syndicate that took place in the Media Department at Al-Quds Open University, Gaza Branch, thus becoming the first female president of the Syndicate of Young Journalists at universities in the Gaza Strip.
This is the first experience of its kind for students to practice the electoral process, and represented a democratic festival through which students exercised their right to vote and choose their representatives.
The “Tawasul” project targets young media professionals, with the support of the German “Bread for the World” Foundation, in order to create Palestinian leaders from the younger generation, to form a union body concerned with defending the rights of young journalists, so that those affiliated with the project become the cornerstone of the Young Journalists Syndicate.
