Information
Mona Nabil Al-Kurd (born May 15, 1998) is an activist and journalist who studied media at Birzeit University in the West Bank and rose to prominence through her coverage of the events in Sheikh Jarrah in occupied Jerusalem .
Her life
Mona was born in 1998 in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood . Since she was young, she and her family have been subjected to harassment and threats of eviction by the Israeli authorities. In 2009, Israeli settlers took over half of her home on the grounds that they were building without a permit. Her family is now facing an Israeli court ruling that will evict them from the other half of her home, along with 11 other families. They were given 30 days to leave the house, but the family’s lawyer filed an appeal with the local court. The Israeli court justified its ruling in favor of the Israeli settler organizations on the grounds of the statute of limitations, saying that more than 30 years had passed since the settlers claimed and registered the land. In 2021, Mona El Kurd and her brother, Mohammed El Kurd , were named to Time magazine's annual list of " The 100 Most Influential People in the World . "
