Musa Kamal, whose full name is Musa Rasim Kamal Ismail (Abu Rami; December 8 , 1934 – October 22 , 2021 ) , was a Palestinian -Canadian chemical engineer and professor . He was born and raised in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm . He was the head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at McGill University in Canada and an honorary professor of chemical engineering there. He was known for his contributions to the field of polymer processing science , and he received several prestigious scientific awards and honors, including a fellowship of the Royal Society of Canada .
His upbringing and education
Musa Rasim Kamal Ismail was born on December 8, 1934 in their home in the northern neighborhood of the Palestinian city of Tulkarm . He received his primary, intermediate, and secondary education in the schools of his city, Tulkarm, including Al-Fadhiliya School .
His father is "Rasem Kamal", who was a member of the Tulkarm Municipal Council from 1959 until April 26, 1974.
In 1958 , Musa Kamal obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the United States of America , then obtained a Master's degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 1959 , and in 1961 he obtained a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University .
His professional life
From 1961 to 1967 he led chemical research at the Research Laboratories Center of the American Cyanamid Company , and since 1967 he became a professor of chemical engineering at McGill University in Canada , and in 1983 he assumed the position of head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the university and continued in that position until 1993 , and since 1986 he became director of the Preiss Research Institute at the university, and held the position of professor emeritus of chemical engineering at the university until his death.
Between 1974 and 1975 he worked as a professor at the University of Beirut in Lebanon , and in 1977 he was the director of the microeconomic development plan in the Moroccan capital Rabat , and since 1978 he has assumed the presidency of the " Tulkarm Foundation " in the Canadian city of Montreal , and he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Canada Institute of Plastics in Toronto since 1986.
Between 1995 and 1996 he worked as a professor at the School of Mines in the French capital, Paris , and in the same year 1995 he also worked as a professor at the University of Strasbourg in France.

His death
Musa Kamal died on October 22, 2021 at Montreal General Hospital in Montreal , Quebec, Canada, at the age of approximately 87.
Following his death, several academic and scientific bodies in Canada , Palestine , Jordan and other countries mourned him. The Montreal newspaper also mourned him saying: “He will be fondly remembered by his many friends, colleagues and students in the field of polymers at McGill University and around the world . ”
Posthumous honor
On December 1 , 2021 , about two months after his death, McGill University decided to lower its flags to half-mast “in honor of him and in remembrance of his distinguished scientific and academic person and in appreciation of his efforts and research in chemical engineering .” The university also decided to establish a fund in his name to support and provide medical assistance to the needy and poor.
