Abu al-Hayja' Afif Muhammad Abd al-Rahman (August 10, 1937 - April 19, 2019) was a Palestinian-Jordanian linguist and literary academic. He was born in the village of Ain Hawd, near Haifa, during the British Mandate of Palestine, and grew up there. He obtained a master's degree in literature from Cairo University in 1968, and obtained a doctorate from the same university in 1971. He worked as a teacher in Jordan and Kuwait, then as director of the Arabic Language Department at Yarmouk University. He has many books on the history of Arabic literature, investigations and literary studies. He died in Amman.

Afif Muhammad al-Rahman was born in the village of Ain Hawd, near Haifa, on August 10, 1937 / Jumada al-Akhira 3, 1356. He obtained a master's degree from Cairo University in 1968 in Arts, specializing in (Abbasid literature) for his thesis on the phenomenon of pessimism in Arabic poetry from Abu al-Atahiya to Abu al-Ala' Maari. He obtained his doctorate from Cairo University itself in 1971 (pre-Islamic literature) for his thesis Poetry and Arab Days in the Pre-Islamic Era.
He first worked in relief schools from 1954 until 1964, then in the teacher training center from 1964 until 1965, from which he moved to Kuwait, where he worked in its schools from 1965 until 1970, and in its institutes from 1971 until 1976, from which he returned to Jordan, where he worked as director of the Arabic Language Department at Yarmouk University until his retirement.
He was also Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Yarmouk University. He was distinguished by his interests in pre-Islamic literature, grammar, bibliography and lexicons. He supervised dozens of students applying for a master’s and doctoral degrees inside and outside Jordan, and he received a grant from the DAAD Foundation for Scientific Research. He spent the summer of 1983 in German universities, and he also received a grant from the ICA. He spent the summer of 1979 to study in St. Jones College in America.
He was a member and chairman of committees, including a member of the Committee for Developing a Master’s Plan in Arabic Language Styles, a member of the Postgraduate Studies Committee, a member of the Council of the College of Arts and Sciences, and a vice-president of the Yarmouk University Club.
He passed away on April 19, 2019, corresponding to Sha'ban 14, 1440 in Amman.
