Today, Wednesday, the Varkey Foundation announced the names of the 50 male and female teachers who qualified to receive the Best Teacher Award in the World, which is considered the highest award in the world specializing in education. The name of the Palestinian teacher, Abeer Al-Qunaibi, was named as one of the 50 best teachers in the world and a candidate to compete for the award. First places in the Best Teacher in the World Competition for the year 2017.

The name of the teacher, Abeer Al-Qanibi, one of the teachers at Widad Nasser Al-Din Secondary School in the Hebron Governorate, was among the fifty names as the only Palestinian teacher among those qualifying for the prize worth one million dollars.

The Global Teacher Prize was designed and created to select an exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the teaching profession, as well as to highlight the important role that teachers play in society by revealing thousands of hero stories that have transformed and influenced the lives of young people, in hopes of the award commemorating the exceptional works of millions of teachers. all over the world.

Abeer Al-Qunaibani grew up in a society that preferred women’s marriage to their education. She married at an early age, but nevertheless continued her education journey and obtained a bachelor’s degree in mathematical sciences. She had a constant motivation to become a teacher, influenced by her previous teachers who helped her and pushed her to progress, towards her goal of developing new educational visions and theories to keep pace with progress in the field of technology. These visions are based on cooperation, exchange and sharing of innovative and creative ideas. It has contributed to the creation of supportive and positive groups around learning with its “Math Café” initiative, which aims to create an interactive atmosphere for learning similar to the interactive atmosphere in a café. Its students excel and excel in exams, competitions and mathematics Olympiads.

Teacher Abeer Al Qunaibi completed her graduate studies and focused on setting good role models for students. Teacher Abeer won fourth place at the Intel-ICIF exhibition held in the United States of America in 2012 for her role in supervising the “Crying Planet” project: this was the award. The first for Palestine to win in this exhibition. Teacher Abeer also strengthened local and international relations by holding Skype meetings with students from various schools throughout Palestine, the United States of America and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In 2012, she was awarded the Silver Medal for Innovation and Creativity by the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas.
The top 50 teachers were selected from more than 20,000 nominations from 179 countries around the world. The top 50 teachers represent 37 countries and by highlighting their stories, the Varkey Foundation hopes that the public will be able to participate in ongoing discussions about the importance of teachers. The winner will be announced at the Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai on Sunday, March 19, 2017.

The 50 selected teachers have their applications judged by the award committee and the top ten will be announced in February 2017. The top ten winner will then be selected by the Academy for the Global Teacher Award. All ten nominees will be invited to Dubai to attend the announcement ceremony during the Global Education and Skills Forum (GESF) on Sunday, March 19 next year, where the winner will be announced live.
