Omar Farwana (February 7, 1956 – October 15, 2023) is a Palestinian gynecologist , who worked as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Human Medicine of the Islamic University of Gaza , and was its dean.
His biography
Omar Saleh Omar Farwana was born in Al-Sabra neighborhood on February 7, 1956. He studied primary school at Al-Imam Al-Shafi’i School, then continued his preparatory and secondary education at Al-Zeitoun and Palestine Schools. He joined the Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University in 1974, and graduated with honors in 1982. He then specialized in physiology at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom . He then continued in Australia to specialize in andrology and infertility . He was a member of the board of directors of the Friends of the Patient Charitable Society in Gaza.
He was among those deported from Marj al-Zohour on December 17, 1992, where he worked as an official for the medical committee in the camp, and he ran the clinic there. Sources indicate that the clinic worked “ around the clock to treat their patients, and succeeded in performing several surgeries for a number of deportees, and a number of residents of the Marj al-Zohour area even received treatment there .”
It is noteworthy that his father is the Palestinian poet Saleh Omar Farawneh (1936 - March 10, 2013), and he published a poetry collection entitled “Palestinian Vocabulary” in 2004, and the second part in 2011.
He, his wife, children and grandchildren were assassinated on October 15, 2023, during an Israeli air strike on his home in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood, southwest of Gaza City , during the Israeli response to Operation Flood of al-Aqsa.
