Dr. Said Jamil Haifa was born in Al-Mazra’a Al-Sharqiya, Palestine in 1951. He received his BA from the University of Jordan in 1974, majoring in Economics and Statistics. He received his MA in Economics and International Economics from McGill University in Montreal, Canada in 1979, and his PhD in Economics with a focus on Monetary Theory from McGill University in 1984.
He joined Birzeit University in 1980, and was appointed Head of the Department of Economics during the periods 1984-1986, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Economics at Birzeit University during the period 1986-1989, Head of the Department of Economics during the period 2006-2011, and Coordinator of the Master’s Program in Economics during the period 2007-2011.
Dr. Said Haifa was a member of the Palestinian delegation to the Multilateral Working Group on Economic Development and Regional Cooperation, as well as the Macroeconomics Counterpart Coordinator with the World Bank’s Macroeconomics Mission during the period 1991-1994.
He is also a member of several national and international organizations. He has conducted many researches and studies aimed at enhancing, improving and developing the industrial and agricultural sectors in Palestine.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Palestine Monetary Authority from September 2009 to September 2011, and the Palestine Deposit Insurance Corporation from 2013 to 2019.
Dr. Saeed Haifa is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Palestine Monetary Authority and a professor of economics at Birzeit University.
