Information
Izzeldin Abuelaish (February 3, 1955 in Jabalia refugee camp -) was a Palestinian-Canadian physician and author from Gaza. He was the first Palestinian doctor to work in an Israeli hospital. He was active in promoting the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. His daughters attended a peace camp with Israeli children in the United States.
During the Israeli war on Gaza in January 2009, his three daughters and a niece were killed by Israeli tank fire directed at his home. Abul-Eish described the killing of his daughters in a video clip that went viral around the world. The Israeli army initially claimed that Dr. Abu El-Eish's house was targeted because it was the source of sniper fire.
He immigrated to Canada, where he now resides in Toronto, with his remaining children.
