Information

Saleem Nimer Zaroubi is a Palestinian professor, researcher and lecturer from the interior, specializing in cosmic physics, and researcher in the history of the formation of the universe, born in 1963. His interests include the origin and development of the complex structure in the universe, the characteristics of cosmic microwaves that were liberated after about The 370,000 years of the Big Bang, the emergence of the first galaxies and their impact on the gas state in the universe, the physics of intergalactic medium, the influence of dark matter and dark energy on the evolution of the universe and the building in it.

His upbringing and study

Zarubi grew up in the Galilee city of Nazareth, the eldest son of his family of five brothers and sisters. He received his primary education at the Baptist School in Nazareth, graduating from it in 1981. He obtained his first and second degrees from the Institute of Applied Sciences (the Technion), and his doctorate he obtained from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1994, and then immediately moved to work as a researcher at the University of California, and from the Institute of Max Planck Astrophysics near Munich, Germany in 1998.

scientific achievements

Among the most prominent achievements of Zarubi is that he was the first to develop statistical methods for cosmological reconstruction from observational data, and to measure the temperature of gas between galaxies as a function of time, about ten billion years ago, and a major contribution to the study of the stage called “reionization stage in the universe.” » (Cosmic Epoch of Reionization) and its Observability.

In 2004, he took the initiative with two of his colleagues to establish a large project aimed at measuring the extent of ionization of hydrogen gas in the universe as a function of time, in order to reveal the nature of the first galaxies and stars in the universe that began to form about 300 million years after the Big Bang. This project uses the European radio telescope known as LOFAR is based in the Netherlands.

In 2004 he transferred to the University of Groningen in the Netherlands where he worked as a university teacher at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute, in 2006 became an Associate Professor there, and since 2010 has been a Full Professor.

current work

Since 2016, Zarubi has been working at the Open University as well as the University of Groningen.

Salim Zaroubi appears frequently in meetings with students in various schools as well as in lectures intended for the general public.

Since 2015, he started writing scientific articles about the universe and its history for the general public in Arabic, which he publishes on the “I believe in science” website. He also has several political and social articles.
