Dr.. Hatem Reda Jarrar, a doctor and
former mayor of Jenin, won the municipal elections in Jenin in 2006 and won a
very high percentage of the city’s votes. He was arrested by Israeli forces in
2006 along with the mayor of Qalqilya, and released after three years. He
resigned from his position in 2010 and returned to practice as an orthopedist.
the biography
He was born in the town of Burqin in
1947 and obtained a high school diploma in 1965. He obtained a Bachelor of Medicine
and Surgery in 1972 from the University of Mosul in Iraq. He obtained the
Palestinian Board in Orthopedic Surgery. He held the position of secretary of
the Palestinian Student Union in 1967 and 1968 at the University of Mosul in
Iraq. He won the chairmanship of the Sub-Committee of the Medical Association
in Jenin for 6 sessions on the Islamic Bloc. He won the Doctors Syndicate in
the West Bank from 1992-1995, and this victory caused a media resonance on that
day.
