Dr. Youssef Asfour is a businessman, born in the village of Sinjil in Palestine in 1955.
He began his professional work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as an import and export agent for various agencies for several companies. During his professional career, Dr. Youssef Asfour established his own company in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the field of customs clearance, in addition to his work in the field of real estate in Palestine.
In 1997, Dr. Youssef launched another marble and granite company called “Geneva Company” in Palestine. Dr. Youssef Asfour also obtained an exclusive agency for the “Gloria Jean’s Coffees” chain of cafes in Palestine, which is a prestigious Australian agency specializing in the field of coffee, spread across about 1,200 coffee shops. Branches in 41 countries around the world, and it now has more than one branch in the governorates of Palestine.
In 1995, Dr. Youssef Asfour, along with other partners, established the first private Palestinian university under the name (Arab American University), which was opened in the year 2000. Today, it has become one of the most important streams of knowledge in the region, with more than 12,000 bachelor’s, diploma, and master’s students studying there. and Ph.D., distributed over two campuses: the main campus in Jenin, with the shrine covering an area of 380,000 square metres, and the second campus in Ramallah, with the shrine covering an area of 23,000 square metres.
Since its founding, Dr. Asfour held the position of Chairman of the University’s Board of Directors, and worked to supervise its administrative and academic development, until this scientific edifice became one of the most important national projects in northern Palestine in particular and in the whole country, and “Arab American” became a beacon of knowledge to be proud of, so Dr. Youssef deserved it. Asfour received an honorary doctorate in economics and business administration from Oxford College in the United Kingdom.
His Excellency the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, awarded Dr. Youssef Asfour the Star of Merit of the State of Palestine Medal in recognition of his honorable national role, his economic contributions, and his service to the causes of his people and his country.
