Sanaa Samir Hussein Abdullah Al-Sarghali (born February 2 , 1987 ) is the first Palestinian woman to obtain a PhD in constitutional law in the State of Palestine . She is a Palestinian researcher in the field of law and constitution,  and a professor of constitutional law at the Faculty of Law at An-Najah National University ,  and the founder and director of the Center for Constitutional Studies at An-Najah University .  She holds the position of UNESCO Chair for Democracy, Human Rights and Peace,  and is the first Palestinian in the Palestinian Constitution Drafting Committee, having been appointed by the Palestinian National Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization . 

Her upbringing and academic achievement

Sanaa Samir Hussein Abdullah Al-Sarghali was born in Tulkarm on February 2, 1987. Her maternal grandmother was a Jewish immigrant from Poland who married her Palestinian grandfather in 1937 in Jerusalem . After their marriage, her grandmother converted to Islam and lived in Tulkarm. Sanaa completed her secondary education at Al-Adawiya Girls Secondary School in the city. In 2005, she enrolled at An-Najah National University in Nablus, graduating in 2009 with a law degree. In the same year (2009), she enrolled at Durham University  in the College of Graduate Studies, graduating in 2010 with a master's degree in law. In 2011, she enrolled at Lancaster University to complete her doctorate in constitutional law ,  making her the first Palestinian to obtain a doctorate in constitutional law,  and also the first Palestinian and Arab to be awarded the Excellence Award from a British university.
