Information
Professor Alian has a diverse and excellent experience in both academia and industry. He holds a PhD in Information Systems and a Master’s degree in Business Information Technology. He is a full-time professor and assistant to the president of Palestine Technical University-Kadoorie. He worked for five years as an assistant professor at Birzeit University in the Department of Computer Science, where he taught various undergraduate and graduate courses, and supervised Master’s students in Scientific Computing and Software Engineering.
He also worked as a lecturer and course team leader in Computing at the University of Essex/UK, where he taught various courses such as Information Systems, Project Management, Databases, Internet Databases, Website Management, Computer Ethics, Business, and Research Methodologies. He developed the BSc program in Forensic Computing, and was a visiting lecturer at the University of Manchester, where he taught an MSc course in Enterprise Systems Modeling and Business Information Technology.
He has served as an external reviewer for some international conferences and journals in Information Science, Information Systems, and Business Process Modeling. His research interests focus on systems dynamics, software quality, information systems, business process modeling, customer service and satisfaction, return on investment, IT management, IT project management, service quality, academic quality, performance evaluation, business ethics, computer and software testing quality assurance, usability, e-commerce websites and online decision-making systems. Dr. Alian was selected as a jury member of the Education Oscars competition for higher education institutions worldwide for the year 2020. He has good experience as an information systems consultant at the European Union Commission supporting the Ministry of Social Affairs, a software developer at the Arab Bank-Palestine, and the General Manager of the German Technology Center at the Palestinian Ministry of Labor.
He is a member of some associations such as the British Computer Society, the Institute of Learning and the Society for Systems Dynamics. Professor Alian is one of the founding members of the Education Experts Initiative in Palestine, a member of the Board of Directors of Al-Isra Hospital in Tulkarm/Palestine, a member of the Steering Committee of the IT Strategy in Palestine, the National Coordinator for European Cooperation in the Field of Science and Technology in Palestine, a member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Mediterranean Universities ( UNIMED ) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Palestine Monetary Authority.
