Information
I am working, actually, as an assistant professor in computational linguistics and teaching several subjects: linguistics, sociolinguistics, French language, and culture. My specialty is linguistics and Natural Language Processing (NLP). I created and directed the Language Resource Center from 2010 until the end of 2015. The LRC is a multimedia computer facility supporting many languages taught in various departments at An-Najah University. Students work interactively with computer and web-based materials which allow them to experience foreign language acquisition as a living, vital process. I was a visiting scholar at Teachers College/ Columbia University (2008 spring semester, 2009 summer semester, and 2010 summer semester as PFDP Short Term scholar) in the International and Transcutural Studies department.
I used the cooperation with Columbia to extensively read recent books and theses in the field of international education as well as in lecturing in various subjects “Sociolinguistics” and “Bilingual Education”, and participating in debates and conferences on related subjects. I was chairing the French Department at An-Najah National University in Nablus-Palestine from 1999 until the beginning of 2008-2009.
I received my undergraduate and graduate education in French universities. I also worked there as a research and teaching assistant for more than 5 years. This experience gave me solid knowledge of the educational system in France and Europe.I was also engaged in many associations working in the field of Education and Information like OSV (Ouverture Sur la Vie), Education Communication and Information (CEI).
Others were related to the life of Palestinian people like the GUPS (General Union of Palestinian Students), Phalestine Amitie, Collectif Palestine or working for the well being of the immigrant community like MRAP, ARETE and CIMADE. When I returned home, I worked first as the head of the Public and International Relations Department where I developed a large network of relations with European universities and research centers. My main objective at that time was to connect An-Najah University with a diverse range of other cultures, research and education institutions and practices in Europe and the United States.
