Information
He was born in Nablus and educated in its schools. He served as principal of the Darwishiya School and the Rashadiya al-Sharqiya School, and as deputy inspector of primary education. He was responsible for education in the government of Sheikh Omar Zu'ayter, which he formed immediately after the Ottoman governor withdrew from Nablus in 1918, during the first weeks of the British occupation. He also served as inspector of education for Nablus and Jaffa. In 1941, he worked as an inspector of schools run by the Supreme Islamic Sharia Council. In 1950, he became the administrator of the Nablus Waqf (religious endowment). He played an active role in establishing the Orphanage for Girls in cooperation with the Arab Women's Union, where he served as the association's educational and administrative advisor.
He was also one of the founders of the Islamic Charitable Solidarity Association. He is credited with opening girls’ schools in dozens of villages, where he would overcome the obstacles that stood in the way of girls’ education by asking the village headman or notable to nominate a woman to work for the school before even talking about establishing a school for girls. Of course, the village headman would nominate one of his relatives or accountants for this job.
