Abbad Yahya is a writer and researcher from Palestine. He worked as a researcher at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies. He holds a master's degree in Sociology from Birzeit University in Palestine.
His novel Ramallah Al-Shaqra was published by Dar Al-Fil in 2013, then he wrote the novel Section 14 in 2014 and it was published by the Arab Cultural Center.
The writer has also published a new novel entitled “Ramallah”, which will be his fifth novel.
The writer recently published a novel, A Crime in Ramallah, by Al-Moustawasit Publications. The novel caused a wide media response after the Palestinian authorities confiscated it under the pretext of violating morals and public decency. The Palestinian Public Prosecutor issued a decree banning the novel and summoning the writer, Abbad Yahya, for investigation. Reactions escalated in cultural circles after the issuance of this decision and its implementation. Intellectuals, writers, and media professionals expressed their solidarity with the writer and their support for what they consider freedom of opinion, expression, and creativity. A statement was issued on social media to express their position rejecting the confiscation of the novel.
Achievements and Awards
Abbad Yahya won a “writer in exile” grant from the German PEN website (PEN-Zentrum Deutschalnd). He was also shortlisted for the Freedom of Expression Award from the Censorship Index, a global organization specialized in monitoring the conditions of freedom of expression in the world.
