Palestinian writer Abla Ghassan Jaber won the "Ismail Fahd Ismail Award for Short Fiction" for her novel (Peace in the Time of War).
In addition to Jaber, the Bahraini Taqwa Muhammad Jawad also won for his novel (Phobia of Faces) and the Moroccan Muhammad Saeed Ahjiuj for his novel (Night of Tangier).
The announcement of the winners came during a ceremony held on the sidelines of the forty-fourth session of the Kuwait International Book Fair, in the presence of Kuwaiti writer Talib Al-Rifai, Egyptian Fatima Al-Budi, director of Al-Ain Publishing House, and Kuwaiti Iqbal Al-Othaimeen, head of the jury.
Fatima Al-Budi said: "This award is motivated by intense love and appreciation for Ismail Fahd Ismail and his literary achievement."
She added, "The jury's work took a long time due to the large number of entries, and had it not been for the delay in obtaining the result, we would have had the winners here today at this ceremony."
She indicated that the award secretariat will host the three winners during the Cairo International Book Fair in 2020 and they will receive their award there.
