The National Committee for Jerusalem as Permanent Capital of Arab Culture launched, at the Yasser Arafat Museum, this evening, Saturday, the book “Jerusalem People Who Made History” by its authors, Aziz Mahmoud Al-Assa, and Dr. Imad Afif Al-Khatib, in an evening moderated by writer Abdel-Ghani Salama.
Minister of Culture and Chairman of the National Committee for Jerusalem as a Permanent Capital of Arab Culture, Ihab Bseiso, said: Today we celebrate the launch of a rich publication in terms of content related to documenting Jerusalem life through prominent Jerusalemites who made a history for Jerusalem and Palestine. Our celebration of this book, which comes within the publication of the National Committee for Jerusalem as a Permanent Capital of Arab Culture, is It emphasizes the effort entrusted to intellectuals, both male and female, in order to dedicate and strengthen the presence of the Palestinian national narrative in various fields of creativity.”
Bseiso added: This research effort presented by Dr. Imad Al-Khatib and Aziz Al-Assa, but it comes in the context of the view of Jerusalem, despite our conviction that each character discussed in the book deserves a book on its own, which applies to other Jerusalemite figures, and can be dealt with as an introduction to further readings about the Jerusalemite figures and their experience. And its impact on life in Jerusalem, monitoring aspirations, challenges, as well as achievements, even if the Israeli occupation tries to disrupt these achievements, to fight the Palestinian narrative in general, and Jerusalem in particular.
Bseiso pointed out that choosing the characters in the book “Jerusalem People Made History” was a smart choice, taking into account many social and political dimensions, as we find men and women, and personalities who have a presence in many fields, and they lived through the Nakba, the setback, and other basic junctures in the history of the Palestinian people, pointing out that These figures are a source of inspiration for future generations.
Writer Abdul Ghani Salama gave a comprehensive overview of the atmosphere, spirit and contents of the book, while Dr. Imad Al-Khatib and researcher Aziz Al-Assa about the effort they made in collecting the material for the book through interviews with relatives of the characters included in the book in the biographical presentation, which continued for more than two years.
The figures highlighted in the book “Jerusalem People Made History” are, in alphabetical order: Elizabeth Hanna Nasser, Amin Saleh Mujaj, Anwar Abdel-Hay Al-Khatib Al-Tamimi, Hosni Suleiman Muhammad Makki Al-Ashhab, Sheikh Hilmi Hassan Taher Abdel-Ghani Al-Muhtasib, Sheikh Saeed Abdullah Sabri, Faisal Abdel Qader Al-Husseini, Mahmoud Qasim Ahmed Abu Al-Zulf, Nihad Alian Abu Gharbiyeh, and Hind Taher Al-Husseini.
