Information
Hassan Hourani , born in 1974 and died on August 6, 2003, is a Palestinian artist born in the city of Hebron , in the State of Palestine . He attended the College of Fine Arts in Baghdad , Iraq from 1993-97. In 2001, he arrived in New York City , where he performed a one-man show called “One Day, One Night” at a United Nations building. Hassan studied art at New York University and lived there for several years. His works achieved international fame as they were displayed in dozens of countries, including Palestine , Iraq, Egypt , Jordan , South Korea , and then the city of Houston .
In 2003, he returned home, where he stayed in the West Bank . At that time, the Israeli occupation prevented Palestinians from traveling across the Green Line to see the sea for many years, but during his return trip, Hourani was able to visit the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. On August 6, 2003, he went swimming with his young nephew, Samer Abu Ajamiya, and their friends from Ramallah before their boat sank near the port of Jaffa .
Good everywhere
Shortly before his death, Hourani had completed only 10 drawings out of 40 in his art book, Hassan Everywhere, in which he traveled around the world in search of what he called the Rose of Love. His drawings were displayed in the year of his death at the opening of the Grand Al Housh Gallery in Jerusalem. The year following his death, the Abdul Mohsen Qattan Foundation was established, which supports Palestinian culture, and the Young Hassan Hourani Award was later established. In 2004, the Qattan Foundation finished Hassan’s stories and drawings and then published them in the volume Hassan Everywhere.
Hassan was a friend of the birds, the bees and the fish in the sea, but he was afraid of the monsters; He also used to travel alone and make his home everywhere. Hassan became famous after displaying a group of his works at Birzeit University. He wrote in one of them as the addressee: “ Hassan rides the waves and feeds on birds and flies. He also rides bicycles and sits on the rooftops, where he is always looking to see the panorama of the world. Finally, Hassan loves flying and traveling everywhere (hence the title Hassan is everywhere ) and also dreams of Palestinian freedom. »
