Edmond Shehadeh (1933-2017) is a Palestinian poet and writer ,  considered one of the symbols of Palestinian culture . 

His life 

Edmond Shehadeh was born in Haifa on February 3, 1933, the fifth child in a family of three sons and six daughters.  He moved with his parents to Nazareth in 1936 and spent the rest of his life there. 

Edmond graduated from Terra Santa College in Nazareth in 1950 and did not continue his university studies due to his personal circumstances.  In the mid-1960s, he joined the Modern Theater Troupe and worked in set design and lighting . He also worked as an assistant director in some plays . During his work in the theater, he published critical and analytical articles in magazines and newspaper supplements. In 1970, he opened the Modern Library in Nazareth. He is also a member, founder, and treasurer of the Writers' Association and a member of the General Union of Arab Writers , as well as a member of the International Pen Foundation. 

He won the first prize for theatrical production in Haifa in 1977, the sabbatical award for Arabic literature from the Ministry of Education and Culture in 1989,  and the shield of the Arab Culture House for national poets in 1992.

His death 

Edmond Shehadeh died on December 17, 2017, at the age of 84.  His funeral was held at 3:00 p.m. from the Maronite Church in Nazareth.
