Sami Muhammad Salim Zaid Al-Kilani (1952) is a Palestinian short story writer, academic and political activist. He was born in Ya'bad , Jenin. He studies at An-Najah National University . He is a member of a number of Palestinian political and literary organizations and has held several positions. He has several literary works, short story books, a children's story and two poetry collections.
His biography
Sami Muhammad Salim Zaid Al-Kilani was born in 1372 AH/1952 AD in Ya'bad , in the Jenin region of Palestine. He obtained a doctorate in social work and human rights. He worked as a teacher at An-Najah National University, then as a lecturer and then as a dean. He was arrested several times and placed under house arrest. One of these was in Ansar 3 detention center in the Negev in May 1989.
He is a current or former member of the administrative body of the Palestinian Writers Union , the Palestinian delegation to the peace talks at the Madrid Conference in 1991 , and the Palestinian National Council . He worked as the director of the Public Relations Department at An-Najah National University and the director of the Community Service Center affiliated with the same university.
He is considered one of the most prominent representatives of the Palestinian Arab nonviolent movement, as he founded the Community Service Center at the university based on the idea of volunteering and education. In this field, he received the Director of the Peacebuilding and Civil Society Program Award at McGill University in February 2010.
On March 5, 2020, he was elected as a member of the Board of Trustees of Palestine Technical University "Khadouri" in Tulkarm by a decision issued by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas , and on January 15, 2023, he was re-elected as a member of the same board by a decision issued by President Abbas.
His literary career
In the opinion of Shaker Farid Hassan, “ In his poetic and narrative writings, Sami Al-Kilani addresses Palestinian concerns, pain and wounds, and depicts the reality and suffering of his people under the occupation. He writes about the land, the wounded homeland, the camp, freedom, the martyrs, the stone uprising, the experience of prison and detention, the desired Palestinian dream, and other motifs, titles and national and social topics. ”
