We in Gaza are with God, some as martyrs and others as witnesses to liberation, and we all await our fate. We all await, O God, Your true promise.

Hiba Kamal Abu Nada

A creative writer who wrote short stories, novels, and poetry. Born in Saudi Arabia in 1991, she came from a refugee family from Beit Jirja, which was displaced and destroyed in 1948. She studied biochemistry and educational qualifications and worked in education.

She received several awards, most notably first place in short story writing in Palestine and second place in the Arab world with the Sharjah Award for Creativity. She published poetry and prose in both print and online.

Among the works of the late writer is the novel Oxygen Is Not for the Dead, which won the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity in 2017.

Hiba Kamal Saleh Abu Nada (June 24, 1991 – October 20, 2023) was a Palestinian writer, poet, and short-story writer from the depopulated village of Beit Jirja who lived in the Gaza Strip. She was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. She dedicated her writing to giving voice to the Palestinian cause and its suffering.

She died on Friday, October 20, 2023, during the events of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. The Palestinian Ministry of Culture mourned her in a statement that read: "The writer and poet Hiba Kamal Abu Nada has passed away as a martyr as a result of the ongoing aggression against our people in Gaza."

She held a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and a master's degree in clinical nutrition from Al-Azhar University, as well as a diploma in educational qualification from the Islamic University. She worked as a leader at the Rusul Center in a department specializing in gifted and creative children in the sciences.

She won second place in the novel category at the 20th Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity, organized annually by the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information, for her novel Oxygen Is Not for the Dead.

In the novel, she portrays the Arab individual during the Arab Spring, transcending geographical boundaries to unite the Arab revolutions through a shared spark and a common cry: "The people want!"—with peoples united in their will, as one heart.

In 2021, Hiba Abu Nada volunteered at Wikipedia through the WikiRights online learning program, where she served as a proofreader for articles submitted by trainees before publication.
