Suad Al-Amiri is a Palestinian architect and writer from Jaffa, born in 1951 to a Palestinian father whose origins go back to the Zahran tribe - he graduated from the American University of Beirut in 1928, then obtained a diploma from the Institute of Law in Jerusalem in the mid-1940s and held a number of ministries in Jordan - and a Syrian mother. She studied architecture at the American University of Beirut, the University of Edinburgh and the University of Michigan, after which she obtained her Ph.D. She married Dr. Salim Tamari, a senior researcher at the Institute for Palestine Studies. She is currently a professor of architecture at Birzeit University in Ramallah.

 

She believed in the importance of the Palestinian cultural and architectural heritage, so she established a center for the restoration and exploitation of archaeological buildings, which in turn documented, recorded and protected thousands of sites and buildings in Palestine. She is the author of several books, including: Traditional Tiles in Palestine, Building Villages of Chairs, Zilzal in Bisan, and others.

 

She has published a number of books, some of which have been translated into 20 languages:
