Information

Historian and poet Ihsan Sidqi Al-Amad was born in Nablus in 1932 and received his primary and secondary education. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Cairo University in 1959, a Master’s degree from Kuwait University in 1972, and then a doctorate in 1980 for his thesis, “The Historian Al-Baladhuri.”
He worked in Kuwait as a teacher for five years, then joined Kuwaiti Radio as an editor for newscasts, then in the television field since 1964. He worked in Jordan as a lecturer at the University of Jordan, worked as a researcher at the Joint Program Production Foundation - Kuwait, and a researcher at the Al-Bayt Foundation - Jordan.
He was a member of the Union of Arab Historians, and received a number of certificates of appreciation from Kuwaiti cultural bodies in appreciation of his activity.
Among his works:
Al-Hajjaj bin Yusuf Al-Thaqafi, historian Al-Baladhuri, Islamic Heritage, Parts Two and Three, translated in collaboration with Dr. Hussein Moanis.
His research activity was notable in historical topics and figures, and he made an effort in investigating ancient manuscripts, and participated in translation from English. He achieved: The Principles of Governance in the System of the World by Hassan Kafi Al-Akhsari - That Al-Salasil - Kuwait 1987 and others.
He presented (published) research on:
The Musaylimah al-Hanafi movement, the Al-Aswad Al-Ansi movement, the Taliha bin Khuwaylid Al-Asadi movement, the Laqit bin Malik Al-Azdi movement, and others... He participated in translating the book: “The Heritage of Islam” written by Schacht, Bosworth, and others.
In his poetic production, he has a manuscript collection, which he called: “Record of Feelings,” and poems published in Kuwaiti newspapers: Public Opinion, Al-Qabas, and Al-Siyasa. In his poetry, he dealt with a number of poetic purposes, including the poetry of contemplation, and he had poems on national and religious occasions. In the later years of his life, he tended to poetry of compliments and brotherhoods, although a certain pessimistic tendency prevailed in him. His poetry is metered and rhymed poetry with an authentic Arabic preamble.
He died in 1995.
