Watan : The young poet Wissal Abu Alia was a guest on the Shaghaf program in its episode today, Sunday 10/1/2023, presented by our colleague Ahmed Ayyash and broadcast on the Watan Media Network, sponsored by the Arab American University. At the “Shaghaf” table, Wissal told many stories, due to her conviction that the stories we do not tell You become the property of our enemies.
Wesal is a media and radio personality who works in the field of radio work. She recently won third place in the International Poetry and Novel Festival in Italy, for her poem “Cities Forbidden from Invasion.” The poem has been translated into Italian.
Regarding the poem, Wissal says: I did not mean a specific city, but rather I meant all Palestinian cities from Ras Naqoura to Rafah, and I mean that our people, with all its components, reject the occupation and have not and will not coexist with it one day.
Wissal, who expected to win the international competition, did not expect to win third place, especially since she is the only Palestinian or Arab poet participating, especially since the majority of participating poets are great writers and have published collections, with the exception of her. Wissal is working on writing her first poetry collection.
Wissal expresses overwhelming feelings of joy, happiness, and sense of accomplishment by winning third place in the International Festival of Poetry and Novel, and thus she was able to raise the flag of Palestine among intellectuals around the world.
Wesal points out that the Palestinians’ battle with the occupation is the battle of the narrative, which makes the word constitute the meaning, content, and cornerstone of conveying the Palestinian narrative to the world.
Wissal, who discovered her talent for writing poetry at an early age, worked hard to develop her talent through intense daily reading. Concerning this, Wissal says: “To be a good writer, you must be an avid reader and believe in your cause. This will make you able to invent new vocabulary and content through which you can Creating change in people’s personalities, knowledge and culture.”
In conclusion, Wesal affirms that people’s faith and confidence in themselves will make them what they want for themselves one day, considering that every Palestinian possesses the capabilities, stories, and challenges that create creativity in their style. At the same time, she affirms that every Palestinian outside the country is a messenger and ambassador for Palestine.
