Ziad Al-Zahir or Ziad Abu Al-Saud Al-Zahir Zidani (1946 - July 17, 2021) is a Palestinian visual artist and engineer , famous for being one of the most skilled painters in the occupied Palestinian interior, where many exhibitions were held for him, and he is considered one of the most important researchers in The history of Nazareth . He also traced the traces of Zahir al-Omar (1695-1775) and drew his vast castles in Galilee and his powerful armies.
His life
Ziad Al-Zaher (nicknamed Abu Tariq ) was born in the city of Nazareth in 1946. He studied primary and secondary school there, then completed his study of architecture at the University of Haifa . He also studied drawing for 3 years, divided between the Municipal Cultural Center in Nazareth (1970), the Mazraa College (1992), and the University of Haifa (1993). He worked as an architect in his own office in Nazareth.
Ziad participated in many local and international art festivals and exhibitions, and his drawings were distinguished by their historical and heritage character about the history of Palestine . Sources mention that Ziad is considered one of the most important researchers in the history of Nazareth, as he used to draw the lineages and branches of Nazareth families in the form of a tree with all its branches. Ziad describes himself as a descendant of the leader Zahir al-Omar al-Zaydani (1695 - 1775), one of the rulers of Palestine in the Ottoman era . This led to him tracing the traces of Zahir al-Umar and drawing his vast castles in Galilee and his powerful armies.
The book “Sheikh Zahir al-Omar al-Zaydani” by historian Mahmoud Yazbek was published in 2018 , and the picture of Zahir al-Omar drawn by Ziad al-Zahir was the cover of the book.
It is also mentioned that Ziad Al-Zahir is married and has a son and two daughters.
His death
Ziad Al-Zahir died in the city of Nazareth on July 17, 2021 AD, corresponding to Dhu al-Hijjah 7, 1442 AH, at the age of 75. His body was transported from the White Mosque , and he was buried in the Lower Cemetery in Nazareth.
Historian Omar Muhammad Nazzal Al-Armouti, author of the book “The Zayadna Clans in Jordan,” mourned him, describing Ziad Al-Zahir as “ the Zaydna authority in the Arab world .”
As the municipality of Nazareth mourned him, “ The municipality of Nazareth, along with its president, Mr. Ali Salam, its administration, and its municipal council, mourns the son of Nazareth, the authentic Nazarene artist and painter, Ziad Abu Al-Saud Al-Zahir, who passed away today, Saturday, 7/16/2021 .”
