His study and work

Tawfiq studied at the Sheikh Muhammad al-Saleh Kuttab in the Salahiyya School  , then joined the Teachers' College at the Arab College , where his teachers were Is'af al-Nashashibi and Khalil al-Sakakini . He was then appointed a teacher at the Bakriyya School in 1919, and was then transferred to Gaza . He then worked as the principal of the Majdal School in 1924  , then as the principal of the Lod School, where he succeeded in transforming it from an elementary school into a secondary school with a boarding house for students.  He then worked in more than one position, including as the principal of the Qalqilya School during the years 1945-1947, after which he was returned as the principal of the Lod School, and was appointed Secretary of the National Committee in the city. He prepared a number of radio plays that were broadcast by the Palestinian Radio in Jerusalem.  After the Nakba , he returned to Jerusalem to work in education, where he reopened schools that had been used as defense centers during the war. He had to find teachers to work in their schools, restore some of them, and finance them.  Al-Rashidiya School was one of the first schools he opened, and he worked as its principal and as an education inspector at the same time. He also worked at Birzeit College until 1967 and participated in the founding of the university , where he was the first chairman of its board of trustees from 1973 until his death.

His struggle against colonialism

In 1937, during the Great Palestinian Revolution, the British forces arrested Tawfiq due to his political activity and his role as a preacher , as he urged the struggle of the British Mandate and opposed the sale of land and Jewish immigration. He was dismissed from his job at that time.  He participated in the Nakba War in 1948 in the battles to defend Lod , where he was the secretary of the National Committee in the city. He contributed effectively to community activities in Jerusalem that aimed to protect the Arab presence there, so he participated in the establishment of the Red Crescent Society in 1949, the Al-Maqasid Charitable Society , the Islamic Authority, the Sharia Endowments Council, the Nursing College, and the Orphanage School.
