Monther Jawabreh was born in 1976 in Al-Aroub refugee camp in Palestine, now living in Betlehem, he graduated from Al-Najah National University, Nablus in 2001.
Jawabreh works in variety of media, ranging from painting to video art and performance, and also interactive and experimental media based on an ongoing research work. In 2010 Jawabreh was artist in residency in “internationale des Arts Cite” in Paris, and since then his work has taken a conceptual dimension taking shape in the forms of expression he uses in discussing ideas and proposing solutions and comparitves.
Jawabreh works were presentned and exhibited in several solo exhibitions in Palestine and abroad, and also in many more group exibitions, and participated in many artist workshops and residences in Europe and the Arab world, and he is considered as an activist-artist in the personal and insitutional level, and he took part in founding and administrating some of the art institutes in Palestine, in addition to his work as a teacher in Palestinian universities and educational centers until 2012, and since then he is devoting his full to time to developing his artistic practices. In 2012 he presented his major work, “what was known”, as a solo exhibition which is based on a research on the persona of the Palestinian Resistance Fighter before the Oslo period in 1994.
In these days he is carrying on his project-research on the concept of resistance, striving to present new works open to the human condition in the modern times and also in past, and presenting comparisons, documentations and solutions to resistance, this project is also to open to the different georgraphical, ethnic, and religious contexts, investigating the many realities and concepts of different cultures.
