Omar Akram Omran Al-Bitar (1963-) is a Palestinian economist and legal auditor , who has held the position of Minister of Finance in the government of Muhammad Mustafa since March 2024.
His life
Between 1980 and 1984, Al-Baytar studied finance and banking and obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri - St. Louis in the United States .
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Jordan Capital Bank until he submitted his resignation on July 29, 2022. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Palestine Development and Investment Company (PDICO) and its subsidiaries, and a member of the Board of Directors of Al Amal Financial Investment Company in Jordan.
On March 28, 2024, President Mahmoud Abbas approved the ministerial formation of the nineteenth Palestinian government headed by Muhammad Mustafa and gave it confidence. On March 31, 2024, Bitar took the legal oath as Minister of Finance at the Palestinian presidential headquarters in the city of Al-Bireh .
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas amended Decree No. (9) of 2016 establishing the Palestinian International Cooperation Agency on June 11, 2024, adding a Board of Directors to the agency. He later issued Decision No. (51) of 2024 appointing him as a member of the Board starting from June 23, 2024.
