Born in Jerusalem, Dr. Al Khayyat is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in both England and Scotland. He established Julphar (Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries) in Ras Al Khaimah in 1977, and managed it until 1989.  In 1982 he set up Alphamed, the company that was the foundation of Al Khayyat Investments.
